Lunamama, Kimberly Daniels | Local Love Squamish
Well, it’s been a while since I’ve shared a little local love business feature with you. So I guess there’s no better time than this to spotlight my first Squamish based business! I am excited to feature beautiful Kimberly Daniels. Her local business is all about mamas and babies, something that I can relate to. Kimberly is a birth doula.
Having a doula by my side during the birth of my twin boys was perfect. The support was unbelievably helpful. As a doula, Kimberly focuses her attention on the little things like keeping everyone fed, hydrated and comfortable. She works likes a coach, ensuring emotional and physical support from beginning to end.
I truly admire Kim for taking the lead with our Local La Leche League as a dedicated volunteer. It’s clear that she is passionate about supporting new and expectant mamas in so many ways. If you’re pregnant, I highly recommend contacting Kimberly – her work is fuelled by love and she is one of the sweetest people that I know.
Here are a few words from Kimberly and a few images from a recent mini session I did with her and her adorable family as part of a fundraiser for La Leche League Squamish.
Tell us a bit about yourself, Kimberly.
I have two vibrant and busy kids and an incredibly supportive husband. We’ve lived in Squamish for over five years and can’t think of a better place to raise our family. I attended my first birth nine years ago and the spark was lit!
Tell us a bit about your business.
My business is quite unique, I have the privilege and honor to witness life coming into the world, it doesn’t get any better than that! I get to know the families I work for through prenatal visits during their pregnancy in which I help to educate and support them in knowing their options for their birth. Being at their side when they become parents and supporting them through early parenthood spurs connections that go way beyond anything I could’ve ever imagined.
What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
I’m collaborating with another local professional & mom, on putting together educational talks about pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Sharing information about options to childbearing families is something I feel is very important.
Where would you be if you hadn’t started your own business?
Working for someone else, probably commuting to work and definitely seeing less of my family.
What do like most about having your own business?
I love being able to spend so much time with my children. Never knowing when I’ll be called out to a birth, I really do have to make the most of our time together. And the cuddles with newborn babies never gets old!
I know that work-life balance is a myth, but tell us what you do to keep things fair between your business and your family.
My family is pretty understanding when I get called out, they know my return is unknown. While I’m away they have some pretty amazing adventures with Daddy. Then when I’m back home we have little “dates” to make sure they know how much I missed them and how special they are to me.
Do you have family photographs in your home? If yes, what value do they hold?
My favorite photo is one of my kids, they are walking along the rock beach exploring. Even though their backs are to us, I know that they are so happy, and the value in that photo is immeasurable.
What advice do you have for Moms out there who are thinking of starting their own business?
If you’re wanting to start your own business it has to be something you love, that way it’s worth the time, effort and money you’ll need to put into it to get it started.
Outside of business and family life what are you most passionate about?
Spending time with family and friends, especially when it involves deep belly laughing. I love to cook and entertain – it reminds me of the huge family gatherings we had when I was young.
What do you daydream about?
A collaborative care birth centre, maybe somewhere in the valley. That way birthing families from throughout the corridor would have an option of birth centre or hospital. It would have space for classes, trails for walking before and during labor… a magical birthing space…
