I just got back from the NAPCP (National Association of Professional Child Photographers) Retreat in Whistler. Words can’t describe how amazing this conference was. I’ve attended various types of workshops and conferences in the past, but never one specifically dedicated to my craft and my passion: baby, child and family photography. Both the speakers and the attendees were inspiring on many levels. Today, I’m back at my desk with renewed excitement for what I do.
While on retreat, our mentors pushed us to invest in our own personal projects as a way to fuel inspiration in our businesses. On occasion, I shoot for my own interest, but once saved to a digital folder on my desktop the captured moment rarely gets the loving attention that my clients’ photos receive. From now, it is all going to change!
In April 2013, my family went for a swim at the community pool with a good friend. She was pregnant at the time. I grabbed my husband’s GoPro and we had a blast. We were really in the moment. I had quickly forgotten those photos, as just two days after our impromptu session, my friend had her sweet baby girl and I was officially called to photograph her in-hospital new baby session. We went on to lovingly document her smiles at 3 months, her sitting sweetly at 6 months (a session that I shared in my promo video) and the ultimate cake smash on her first birthday.
As soon as I arrived home from the retreat, I pulled out these pregnant belly, underwater images and gave them the attention they deserved. I am motivated more than ever to get back in the water, maybe…a lake?!
This mama is just gorgeous, I hope you enjoy:) Stayed tuned for more personal work.
